London trip, guitar piece, piano piece, more

You may have noticed that this thing hasn’t been updated in over a month. It doesn’t mean I don’t love you, but it does mean that I’ve been insanely busy. Work on the piece for guitar and electronics for Fabricio Mattos continues, and I’ve accepted a commission to write a piece for prepared piano, using the same setup as Cage’s Sonatas and Interludes. Both will be done by the end of the month.

I’ll be off to London next Thursday for the wedding of my good friend and former classmate Tom Yardley. Tom is an awesome composer, and will be starting his PhD at King’s College with Rob Keeley in the fall. I highly, highly recommend listening to as much as you can find by either of them, as well as as much music by Donal Rafferty as you can get your hands on (because he is an awesome composer too, and is letting me stay on his/my old couch).

While in London I’ll have a few of my pieces performed at the Miller Pub on July 28th, courtesy of Transatlantic Orchestral Productions. Come on by – or, if you’re in town and would like to hang out otherwise, send me an email or drop me a line on twitter (@NickWritesMusic) or something. TOP recently put on a concert with the Ligeti Quartet at the George Tavern, and posted this video from it just today:

As always, all of the info for all shows coming up (and past) is at nickwritesmusic.com/concerts. In other news, I decided to try and spice up my facebook page (facebook.com/nickwritesmusic) and start up a mailing list (which you can sign up for here).

That’s enough parenthesis for one day. Hope everyone is having a nice summer thus far.
