Live mixing of recorded sounds, March 2007. 13:36

Program Note

This piece represents my first attempt at arranging recorded sounds into a narrative, and the narrative I had come up with was inspired by Bill Bryson's book "A Short History of Nearly Everything." It was a lot of fun to record, and my friend Derek Dawson helped out a lot with that part of it, which basically involved us driving around San Diego for a couple of nights trying to find sounds like the ones I'd imagined. Derek also helped with the first performance, in which I ran the levels and he did panning on however many tracks there are in there. I've performed it on my own a few more times since then, but probably won't do that any more because it's extremely boring to watch, works better on headphones, and the recorded version is totally fine on its own. But I might use recorded sounds with live instruments in the future.
