Under a Neon Sky

A score and recording will be posted soon!

Program Note

I wrote this piece as a way of reconciling the idea of creating a concrete, completed composition with the desire to provide a unique performance at every concert. All of the music is completely composed, but the instrumentation is left entirely open. Each part of the "any twelve or multiple of twelve instruments" is only allowed one pitch class. The guarantees drastic melodic hocketing, and creates a very interesting dialogue between harmony and instrumental color. The piece was awarded the Stewart Prize for Creativity from the UCSD Department of Music in June of 2008.
