About Piano Piece for Mr. Carter’s 100th Birthday

I wrote Piano Piece for Mr. Carter’s 100th Birthday shortly after hearing Pierre-Laurent Aimard premiere Elliott Carter’s Catenaires at the composer’s 100th birthday concert in London. It’s part of a larger series of pieces called Tessellations. Each piece uses each pitch of the keyboard once and only once. This one is very fast and incredibly difficult to play, but so was Catenaires, so hey, why not?
