I composed 88 as an undergraduate who had just been introduced to the twelve tone method and thought, “I wonder what would happen if you expanded that to the entire keyboard?”
This answer to that question is the first piece I wrote in what has become a larger series called Tessellations. Each piece uses each of the eighty-eight pitches of the keyboard once and only once.
