Program note
Debut Sea Preludes (for Nolan Ryan) are my orchestrations of my Three Piano Pieces for Shira. I used Debussy’s orchestrations of Satie’s Gymnopedies as a model.
The piece is dedicated to my friends’ son, Aidan Nolan. He is much louder than his older sister, Whitney Ryan, for whom I wrote the three piano pieces. I believe Matt may have pulled a fast one on Sarah by getting the name “Nolan Ryan” onto their kids’ birth certificates. I felt a similar pun was necessary for the piece title.
